Impact analysis of transient stability due to cyber attack on FACTS devices

The innovations in information and communication technologies (ICT) and digital computer controllers are increasingly integrated into the smart grid. This introduces cyberse-curity vulnerabilities which may cause system stability problems. In this paper, the modification attack on SVC and STATCOM in IEEE 39 bus system is simulated with DSAToolsTM. Then the impact on the system transient stability is studied. The results show that some modification cyber attacks can make the system angle or voltage unstable under the proposed attack scenarios.
