Design of a wide and multiband aperture‐stacked patch antenna with reflector

A novel wide and multiband aperture-stacked patch antenna is presented. It consists of a single microstrip patch with two pairs of slits, resonant aperture, and a thin reflector patch to reduce the back radiation. By the proper choice of slit length, the required multiband characteristics including the small patch size (∼0.25 λo) are realized. By controlling the spacing between the aperture and reflector, the front-to-back ratio at upper frequency band can be optimized. Improved radiation characteristics with high gain (5.9–9.0 dBi) have also been observed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
