Performance of flux reversal motor at various rotor pole arcs

This paper presents the result of the 2D finite element analysis on the effects of rotor pole arc variation on various performance parameters like cogging torque, phase flux-linkage, self inductance, actual developed torque, harmonic torques and torque ripple for an 6/8, three phase flux reversal motor (FRM). The authors have put forward the novel excitation pattern in which each phase is excited for one step angle duration with additive and opposing excitations respectively ensuring higher average torque/ampere for FRM. Considering torque/ampere as the parameter it is observed that with the existing stator geometry, the rotor pole arc in the range of 18deg to 24deg will give better torque performance.
