Identification and analysis of operating modes of single-phase semi-converter fed battery charging circuits using Symmetrical Angle Control scheme - A monograph

A single-phase semi-converter fed battery charging circuit meant for being supplied from a wind-driven self-excited induction generator is analysed with Symmetrical Angle Control (SAC) scheme. Several modes of operation of this scheme with continuous as well as discontinuous load current have been identified as revealed by the input and output voltage and current wave forms depicted for each one of these modes. Starting from the circuit equations, all these modes have been studied and expressions for the various performance quantities have been derived and tabulated. Software simulation of all these cases has been carried out and the simulated waveforms are found to coincide with those calculated from the derived expressions. Further, experimental verifications have also been provided, thereby validating the analysis of the various modes of operation of the converter-battery charging system presented in this paper.
