Objectivity, reliability and validity in qualitative research

As a result of the conflict between positivism and post-positivism, certain methodological principles in qualitative research, such as objectivity, reliability and validity (which are traditionally thought to be purely positivistic), are often questioned by empirical analysts. Because it is often difficult for qualitative researchers to defend their research in terms of these methodological principles, especially with regard to prevailing positivistic research norms, this article considers the reconceptualisation of objectivity, reliability and validity in qualitative research and offers guidelines for enhancing the reliability and validity of qualitative research findings and promoting scientific accountability.
