Advanced non-standard imaging techniques and instrumentation for measurements in the mechanics

One of this techniques is a high-speed video stroboscopy providing the real-time slow-motion display of fast periodic events without a strobe light. The principle of this system will be described and some results of different application will be presented in form of short video clips. Moreover the principle a novel Image Pattern Correlation Technique (IPCT) known also as Digital Image Correlation (DIC) and its practical application for the in-flight 3D deformation measurement of the aircraft wings and propellers will be demonstrated. In the case of the propeller investigation a special camera system rotating together with the propeller has been designed, manufactured and tested. This experiment and the achieved results will be discussed. Later, the instrumentation for the synchronization of the PIV setup will be described. Finally a high-power pulsed LED-light source designed and manufactured for the CW or strobe illumination of various imaged objects and its application for PIV in liquids will be shown.
