Further investigation of empirical path-loss modeling for short forested paths

This paper reports an experimental study of path-loss modeling in foliage environments for VHF and UHF short-range applications. Through the investigation, it is found that although the path loss in a forest can be conveniently modeled using linear regression, it is difficult to apply the extracted information to other forests due to the variety of operational contexts and physical situations such as tree density and height, and trunk diameter. Comparison with the existing empirical model shows that, it is a good solution to correlate the linear regression model with the physical parameters of a forest.
