Water jet assist cutter cutting cobalt crusts

In order to reduce impact load and improve working safety of miner,deepsea cobalt crusts cutting method of water jet assist cutter was proposed.Stress analysis of cutter cutting cobalt crusts with single teeth was analyzed and mechanical model of water jet assist cutter cutting deepsea cobalt crusts was established.With simulation calculation,the relationship between water jet pressure and minimum cutting force of cutter was obtained,which was needed to generate initial crack on cobalt crust surface.Simulation results are as follows: compared with cutter cutting,when water jet working point is overlap with cutter working point,the minimum cutting force is decreased.With the increasing of water jet pressure,the minimum cutting force decreased dramatic.Experiments of water jet assist cutter cutting cobalt crusts simulation material were carried out.Experimental results are as follows: compared with cutter cutting,the maximum impact load is decreased when water jet assist cutter cutting cobalt crusts.When water jet pressure is 5 MPa,the maximum impact load is decreased by 50% and the RMS impact load is decreased by 10%.
