Wide-band/Multi-band Doherty and outphasing power amplifier designs

This work mainly introduces two types of load modulated power amplifier (Doherty and outphasing) that have reemerged as common practice in mobile radio base station transmitters. Some recent works on expanding the operating bandwidth of two-way and three-way Doherty amplifiers by adding reactive compensation is introduced first. Next, the design of a novel dual-band Chireix outphasing architectures is given. Great performance improvements on efficiency and bandwidth are achieved for all the three designs by circuit innovations.
