Structuring the knowledge-based systems evaluation process

Knowledge-based systems (KBS) evaluation is still an obscure issue for practitioners who need to plan, control and conduct the evaluation process. This situation can be partly put down to the fact that there are no general models or frameworks for KBS evaluation. This means that engineers cannot plan the evaluation process and that it is difficult to place individual research contributions within the overall evaluation process. This paper provides an in-depth discussion of the types of evaluation to be conducted on a KBS, including what and how to evaluate.
