The pressure and temperature dependence of burning velocity in a spherical combustion bomb

Various correlations showing the dependence of laminar burning velocity on pressure, temperature and mixture composition are presented. An equation for predicting the laminar burning velocity of methane-air mixtures for pressures of 1–8 atm, temperatures of 300–600°K and equivalence ratios of 0.8 to 1.2 in a constant volume spherical combustion vessel is: S L = C 4 ( T u / 300 ) 1.68 / Φ for Φ ≤ 1 . 0 S L = C 4 ( T u / 300 ) 1.68 Φ for Φ ≥ 1 . 0 where C4=−418+1287/φ−1196/φ2+360φ3−15φ (log10 P). The values obtained by this equation compare with the values determined experimentally in the present study to within 9 percent and with the results of previous investigators to within 4.5 to 34 percent.
