The researcher's companion: enhanced library support for postgraduates

In recent years the emphasis on library support for postgraduate students has grown, particularly in the light of recommendations for research skills by the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education), the RSLG (Research Support Libraries Group) and the AHRB (Arts & Humanities Research Board) and Research Councils. Coupled with this, the number of postgraduate students is increasing. Both the University Library at the University of Surrey (UniS) and Information Services at its federal partner, the University of Surrey Roehampton (USR) have been working to improve library provision for PG (postgraduate) students. When it was realised that both institutions were working towards a similar goal, collaboration was the next logical step. The result is the Researcher’s Companion (see Figure 1).
