Contact bounce in dry reed relays

A simple theory is developed to account for contact bounce observed after closure of dry reed relays. The basic pattern of the bounce oscillograms is explained, and the theory also establishes the conditions under which bounce can occur. The effect of altering various operating parameters is discussed, and it is shown that in practice it is often difficult to reduce the bounce appreciably while maintaining other desirable operating characteristics. Some design modifications can, however, lead to a significant reduction of bounce.
