Structural Behaviour of a Space Frame Utilising the Oktalok Nodal Connection System

The Oktalok nodal connection system is an aesthetic and efficient system. The concept and application of the Oktalok nodal system are introduced. Structural tests of space frames utilising the Oktalok nodal system are described, which include tests with the load maintained for up to 24 hours and tests to failure. A simple approach to determine the ultimate capacity of the space frame is proposed. The member buckling capacity is investigated theoretically using non-linear inelastic finite element analysis. The joints of the space frame are treated as a semi-rigid connection with a rotation spring.
