Adaptive nulling by variable array thinning

Thinning an array means certain elements in a uniform array are made inactive by terminating them in a matched load in order to produce a low sidelobe taper on the aperture. The active and inactive elements can be dynamically changed using switches in the T/R modules. This paper describes an approach to adaptive nulling that changes the active and inactive elements in an array until nulls appear in the directions of the sidelobe interference.
