A robot controlled 3D mapping and communication system using ultrasonic sensors

This paper presents a secure three-dimensional mapping technique using ultrasonic sensor and storage of the positional information in a local server such that only an authorized person can access it through the web. The main motivation behind this work is to address the problem of remote terrain mapping of places that are inaccessible to humans. The proposed solution can be used to investigate pipelines and explore riverbeds. It can also be used by the country's security forces to detect intruders and for probing for signs of life in case of natural disasters. The ultrasonic sensor measures the physical parameters of the location, which is used to make a 3D map of the area. This data is sent via a wireless channel to a local server for storage and protection. The idea is implemented in hardware and experimental results are presented.
