Carcinoma of the Paranasal Sinuses

IN this country, as in North America, sinus carcinoma is generally regarded as a relatively rare disease, accounting for less than i per cent, of all carcinomas. The ear, nose and throat surgeon, however, is only too well aware of its existence because of the problems of treatment and the generally poor prognosis. In the published accounts of this disease technical details of treatment figure today no less prominently than in the past —a clear indication of the concern felt by those involved in the management of such cases. The present paper is concerned not only with treatment but with various other factors which may have a material influence on prognosis. The presentation of this relatively large series of cases provides an opportunity for the recapitulation of the present position of the disease from all points of view.
