DESIGN OF A LOW-COST INERTIAL NAVIGATION SYSTEM WITH GPS FOR CAR NAVIGATION SYSTEM

This paper deals with the design of a low-cost inertial navigation system (INS) to solve the problems of GPS which is a core component of CNS (Car Navigation System) that is a main part of ITS. The low-cost GPS/INS provides the velocity and position of a vehicle using three gyroscopes and a 3-axis-accelerometer, and compensates errors using data of position, velocity, and heading from GPS. In order to confirm the performance of the designed INS, several experiments on vehicles are performed. In conclusion, the performance is improved relative to positioning system that GPS with one gyroscope and one odometer, the cost is lower than existing systems, so it is proper to adapt for land vehicle navigation.
