This research addresses the issues for supporting an automated continuous requirements business rule environment and a research software product demonstrates that such an environment is possible through the use of temporal business rule logical and physical states management.
Business rules are software representations of business requirements which, in turn, represent business decisions. Businesses not only need the ability to rapidly change their software information system requirements in order to react to changes in the business environment, they also need the ability to actively lead changes in the business environment. Businesses already have a way to bypass many of the traditional software development concerns and directly focus on and inject their business concerns (rules) into a business rule engine that enables and controls business GUI applications. But until this research, there has been no single method for enabling an automated business rule continuous requirements environment. By use of a business rule Temporal System Manager, future business requirement plans or scenarios may be prototyped and tested; known future business changes (like tax rates or profit margins) may be pre-tested or pre-set; strategies and tactical sets of requirements may be swapped in and out for testing risks; business decision support and decision process requirements may be imbedded, changed, or tested; and even old operational states may be re-activated in order to discover the differences between their business' state and another business state. The ability to rapidly and continuously change business requirements facilitates business adaptiveness and development to obtain the ultimate business goal of long term survival.
