COMPARISON OF RENTS AT TRANSIT-BASED HOUSING PROJECTS IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA

Transit-based housing is finding increasing favor among planners, transit officials, and even local politicians in California. The purpose of this paper is to probe following questions: Do large numbers of Californians want to live near rail transit stations?; and, if major residential projects are built near transit stations, will developers be able to charge rents equal to or above those of similar projects not near transit?
