Mode switching in control of accommodation

The block diagram describes the functioning of a four mode control system model for ACC that is switched among one or more of these operational modes. Blur controls certain switchings between modes dependent upon upper and lower thresholds for detection of blur. Blur is the “sufficient” neurological control signal; other clues to distance may supplement, but not supplant blur. Acceptance of a residual detectable blur error signal is characteristic of “hill climbing”.
