UWB near-field MIMO radar: Calibration, measurements and image reconstruction

This paper presents some results of the research on muliple-input multiple-output (MIMO) radar done by EADS Innovation Works. The main focus is on the use of 2D sparse MIMO arrays for near-field imaging. An ultra-wideband MIMO imaging lab measurement setup using stepped-frequency continuous-wave (SFCW) modulation is described and simulation as well as real measurement results are shown. Additionally a calibration procedure is explained and the spatial resolution limits with focus on the influence of the wide bandwidth are investigated. It is demonstrated that 2D sparse MIMO arrays together with the presented imaging algorithm allow 3D imaging.
