UWB channel measurements inside different car types

Ultra-wideband (UWB) systems become attractive for the automotive environment enabling very high data rates of up to 1.32 Gbps. In this paper, a comparison of ultra-wideband (UWB) channels inside three different car types is carried out. For this study, measurements with a vector network analyzer (VNA) in the frequency band of 3–8 GHz have been conducted and the fundamental features of the in-car UWB channels in terms of large and small-scale parameters are shown. The results are presented for empty and occupied cars as well as for different transmitting antenna positions.
