Structure of Next Generation Discharge Control Systems

This paper outlines a function-oriented structure, applicable for future discharge control systems. The number of infrastructure and application functions is minimized, control tasks are mapped onto separate controller units. The resulting distributed structure does not distinguish I/O from controller units and supports heterogeneous controller hardware. A common communication layer integrates all units. This set-up results in improvements for rapid modification, flexible discharge control including supervision and emergency handling, long pulse operation functions like instant protocol and display or reference value adjustment, and development support with shot replay and test unit mounting.
