Control system design for dynamic road load simulators

The dynamic road load simulator (DRLS), which is used to simulate the load torque of vehicle drivetrains, is an important equipment to test the reliability of vehicle drivetrains. In order to ensure its performance, this paper designs the control system for DRLS. The permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is used as the loading motor, and the control system applies the current, speed and load torque triple-loop structure. The speed controller is designed to suppress the resonant characteristic of DRLS, improving its dynamic performance. Since DRLS simulates the load torque according to the load spectrum, the load torque controller is designed based on the proportional resonant (PR) control, which can track periodic reference with zero steady-state error. Experimental results on DRLS are provided and validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
