Equivalent skin-effect parameters of lossy coaxial cables for transient analysis

A new equivalent circuit is derived for a coaxial cable, taking into account the transient skin-effect. This model is required for analysis involving high speed digital or high frequency signal transmission. The model can be also applied where coaxial cables are studied for electromagnetic pulse (EMP) induced transients and the impact produced in electronic circuits. The solution for the transient field problem is obtained by using the Laplace transform applied to the Maxwell's equations in time domain. Numerical results showed that when very fast phenomena (such as EMP) have to be characterized the transient skin-effect is very important.
