The Mechanism of Lexical Selection in Bilingual Translating:A Revised Model in the Light of the Language Selection Theory

Past decades have witnessed quite a number of systematic researches of the mechanism of bilingual language selection, whereas the mechanism of the psychological process of translating, especially that of lexical selection of the target language in such a process, has rarely been paid attention to.Considering the similarities between bilingual translating and bilingual code-switching,this paper introduces language-unspecific selection theory and language-specific selection theory in bilingual speech production to the study of bilingual translating and analyzes the implication of bilingual code-switching related to the lexical operations in bilingual translating, resulting in a revised model describing such a process based on the model built by R.T.Bell in 1991.
