Application of a mixed H2/H∞ approach with a singular H∞constraint

This paper explores the application of mixed H 2H∞ optimal control design to a flight control problem. An improved numerical optimization technique is applied and solutions are obtained for controllers of order equal to the order of both the underlying H2 and H∞ problem. Some advantages of this mixed control technique are that it can handle singular H∞ constraints and allows the user to specify the order of the controller. The results demonstrate the potential for controllers obtained using this method to provide performance and robustness characteristics at orders equal to the underlying plants.
