In this paper, the technical trend is summarized for the satellite required power, bus voltage change and development of power conditioning and distribution unit mainly in european side on GEO satellite. The power conditioning unit on GEO satellite controls the bus voltage and the battery charge rate and manages the battery. The power distribution unit on GEO satellite locates generally in external PCU, distributes power to each user and protects the bus voltage. The today"s communication payload on GEO requires more than 15kW and increases continuous the required power. The Alphabus platform is designed to provide up to 18kW to the payload. The total power capability in the in Alphabus satellite is more than 20kW. The bus voltage changes from fully regulated 50Vdc to 100Vdc due to increase power capability in satellite. Also, the PCU is designed with fully regulated 50Vdc to meet small communication payload missions on GEO.
