Optical spatial smoothing of Nd-Glass laser beam

Abstract Optical spatial smoothing of a Nd-glass laser beam is achieved by using a broadband oscillator and an optical fiber as a dispersing element in the pulse generator of the laser chain. Comparison with a conventional generator shows a dramatic improvement of uniformity in focal irradiance profile.
