RESEARCHING THE DESIGN AND MAINTENANCE OF RESIDENTIAL STREET PAVEMENTS

The Australian Road Research Board is undertaking a research project, jointly funded by local government and the Board, with the objective of developing a relationship between pavement thickness, subgrade CBR and traffic and deflection criteria for overlay treatments for residential street pavements. This project comprises the first two years of a five year research proposal to produce a guide for the structural design and over-laying of residential street pavements. A resume of previous research work into the performance of residential streets in Australia is provided, the plan adopted for the current ARRB research program is outlined, and details of the current status of the work presented.
