Application of Improved Binary Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm in PMU Placement

Taking the full network observability of power system operation state and the least number of phasor measurement units(PMU) as objective,this paper proposes an optimal PMU placement algorithm based on probability shifting binary particle swarm optimization(PBPSO).Binary particle swarm optimization(PSO) is a global optimization which may get diverse feasible solutions.Considering the deficiency of convergence rate in conventional BPSO,a probability shifting factor is introduced to adjust the probability of value on 0 or 1 according to bus-outlet number so that the convergence rate of solutions is improved.The effectiveness of proposed algorithm is verified by the numerical calculation results of New England 39-bus system and Hunan Chang-Zhu-Tan 42-bus system respectively.
