Characteristic Analysis of Multi-Microgrids and a Pilot Project Design

With increasing integrations of distributed generations(DGs), microgrids and multi-microgrids appear at the terminals of distribution systems. Their appropriate planning and design turn to be one of the key issues for smart grid development. Firstly the main characteristics of multi-microgrids were discussed in the aspects of operation modes and technical forms in this paper. Comparisons between multi-microgrids and other methods for DG integration and operation were conducted. A general design procedure for multi-microgrids was proposed. The design of a multimicrogrids pilot project at Mao'er Hill in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region was introduced based on the practical demands and conditions of energy supply. The cooperation mode requirements of the multi-microgrids design were verified then. The work extended the practical applications of multi-microgrids, and could be used as a reference for related planning, design, operation and management.
