Evolutionary trees with minimum nucleotide replacements from amino acid sequences

SummaryThe problem of determining the minimum number of nucleotide substitutions required to account for the descent of a set of amino acid sequences given their ancestral relationships (phylogeny) has been studied. A method expanding upon the earlier work of Fitch (1971) for a set of nucleotide sequences is presented and its merits compared to the method of Mooreet al. (1973).
