Vibration and stability of elastically supported beams carrying an attached mass under axial and tangential loads

Abstract The vibration and stability of an elastically supported beam carrying an attached mass and subjected to axial and tangential compressive loads are investigated. The analysis is based on the Timoshenko beam theory and the effects of the attached mass are expressed with Dirac delta functions. The influences of the support stiffness, the direction of loading, and the slenderness ratio on the natural frequency and critical load of a beam are discussed.
