Direct measurement of the zero-dispersion wavelength of tapered fibres using broadband-light interferometry

The group velocity dispersion (GVD) curves of tapered fibres are characterized by using two-beam near infrared interferometry. Broadband light emitting diodes (LEDs) are selected to measure the taper's zero-GVD wavelength in the near infrared region of interest. The interference patterns at wavelengths near the tapered fibre's zero-GVD wavelength are measured and discussed in detail. It is shown that the zero-GVD wavelength can be obtained directly from the interference pattern.
