Phase formation and magnetic propeties of Dy/sub 3/(Fe,V)/sub 29/

A systematic study of the phase formation in the iron-rich end of the Dy-Fe-V ternary system has been carried out using combination of X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and /sup 57/Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy. A new Dy/sub 3/(Fe/sub 0.927/V/sub 0.073/)/sub 29/. compound has been identified, which crystallizes in the monoclinic Nd/sub 3/(Fe/sub 1-x/Ti/sub x/)/sub 29/ (x=1.24) structure with lattice parameters of a=10.605(8) /spl Aring/, b=8.475(7) /spl Aring/, c=9.672(7) /spl Aring/ and /spl beta/=97.06(4)/spl deg/. The Curie temperature is 478/spl plusmn/3 K. The average /sup 57/Fe hyperfine field is 20.9(2) T at 293 K, which corresponds to an average Fe magnetic moment of about 1.49 /spl mu//sub B/.
