Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the insulation process for the telephone wires. Simulation has facilitated the modeling and model verification of the industrial process of high speed telephone wire insulation. It has also proved invaluable in the development and testing of various control strategies that were devised to minimise the waste produced by the process, through their implementation on a microprocessor or based control system. Many industrial processes are at present automatically controlled using standard closed loop controllers. These units are usually general purpose P&I or P&I&D controllers that have their control parameters tuned to a specific process. These time delays are often considered to be unimportant to processes that are steady and continuous, as the standard controllers can be tuned to specific levels. However, problems arise when processes have to be changed or the rate of production has to be altered. To attempt to derive a more suitable control strategy for the process a mathematical model was required and, thus, a large amount of empirical data was collected that was used to construct a process model which was then evaluated by simulation using the ISIS 80 simulation package
