Optimization of multiple reflector antenna configurations for wide angle scan

Shaping of reflector antennas is achieved using a modified form of P.J. Wood's (1980) diffraction profile synthesis technique. In this technique, differences in the induced reflector surface currents calculated for transmit and receive analyses of the antennas are used for shaping. In the transmit analysis, the reflector is fed with a feed element designed for the reflector. In the receive mode analysis, the reflector is fed with a plane wave coming from the desired scan direction with an artificial amplitude taper over the main reflector aperture. As a simple demonstration of the synthesis technique, shaping of a tertiary reflector antenna in a two-dimensional cylindrical trireflector system is considered.<<ETX>>
