Profit evaluation of a two unit cold standby system with random appearance and disappearance time of the service facility

Abstract This paper deals with a model for a two unit cold standby system in which the repair man appears and disappears from the system randomly. Failure time of a unit and appearance and disappearance time of the repair man are negative exponential, whereas repair time is arbitrary. The system is analysed by using the regenerative point technique to obtain various economic measures, such as mean time to system failure, steady state availability and expected profit earned by the system.
