Product Design and Development Methodologies vs. Multimedia Systems Development Methodologies: an approximation from the foundations of their disciplines

This work focuses on a study related with some of the main and recognized methodologies for Product Design and Development (PDD), centered on those aspects identified as most relevant and related with the practices for Multimedia Systems (MS) development, from disciplines such as Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Software and Systems Engineering. The study makes an analysis about the practices involved in the MS development, in contrast with those applied in the processes for product design and development, finding a set of elements represented in process and activities, not represented in the MS development methodologies, evidencing wide gaps between both contexts. These findings lead to an analysis and a set of conclusions, recommended for works related to the design and conception of new methodologies for MS development.
