VLSI Architecture Design of 2D DCT for Real-time Image and Video System

The discrete cosine transform (DCT) has been widely used as the core of digital image and video signal compression. In this paper, we present a high throughput 2D DCT architecture, which is well suited for the application in real-time image or video system. The 2D DCT calculation is made using the 2D DCT reparability property, such that the whole architecture is divided into two ID DCT. These are described in this paper, with an FPGA implementation and the Verilog synthesis results as well.
