Chapter 8 – Athletes at Hotels and Sporting Venues

This chapter examines the issues of security for athletes at both places of lodging and when they are at their athletic venue. The chapter also takes into account that Athletes are often exposed to a number of ethical and legal issues when traveling; these extend from planned seductions to legal accusations. The chapter explores many of the threats that athletes must face, from fans or the media who are spying on them to the fact that hotels and stadiums may be locations for acts of asymmetrical warfare. The chapter also explores the differences between risk (prior to a negative event) and crisis management or the act of handling a negative event once the event has occurred. The chapter provides clear methodologies so as to prevent a negative event and what to do should that event happen.
