Measuring Authorial Indices from the Eye of Co-author(s)

The author’s productivity and impact in a research paper mainly deal with the order of the positions in their publications. However, it is actually very difficult to measure the author’s contribution on a particular article based on the author position. In this paper, we propose three authorial indices for measuring scientific authorships. Modified authorship index (MAI) is proposed as a measure for analysing the author’s overall contribution towards a scientific publication. MAI accommodates the author position information within a scientific publication, thereby generating position-based contribution score for every publication of the respective author. Further, the proposed Author Contribution to Article Visibility (\( ACAV_{MAI} \)) score accommodates the role of citations in creating sufficient visibility for the respective publication. In addition, this paper also proposes consolidated authorship index (AIc) for each author which is derived from the author’s \( ACAV_{MAI} \). The proposed indices are compared with the citation count, h-index and i10-index across the authors of “Journal of Informetrics”, and the results are tabulated.
