A novel design of UHF RFID passive tag antenna targeting smart cards limited area

This paper demonstrates a Ultra High Frequency (UHF) Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) passive tag antenna. The novel design is suitable for placement in the limited space of smart cards, such as bankcards, along with the contactless payment facility and Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) chip. In this paper, a UHF tag antenna is designed using model of the Monza R6 chip specifications while focusing on high performance and read range of upto 12 meters via a very small sized antenna having dimensions of 17.9 mmx 47.30 mm. Performance is analysed in terms of gain, read range and power reflection coefficients. The UHF tag antenna is designed using aluminium on Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) substrate. The proposed design aims to meet the objectives of low cost and small size while maintaining high performance.
