ProtocolDB: classifying resources with a domain ontology to support discovery

Resource discovery systems often rely on a classification of known resources in order to identify resources suitable for a particular task. In this paper we address the problem of semantic classification vs. syntactic classification. In particular we analyze the BioMoby repository and present the approach used in ProtocolDB to store biological resources with respect to a domain ontology.
