What Might Go Wrong with Lan Design and Implementation?

This article discusses several possible problems/issues involved in the design and implementation of local area networks (LAN) based on case studies. Major problems identified can be summarized as poor planning and lack of proper systems development procedures. These cases all seem to indicate the priority of production over planning. Due to various time and monetary constraints, these organizations decided to cut comers on their projects and omit portions of the systems development procedures. One major obstacle, especially in the governmental organizations, was a lack of funding for planning and the use of consultants with the appropriate expertise. With the constant changes in information technology, organizations should alter policies and encourage funding for technology planning. It is hoped that the identified problems/issues will contribute to being better prepared for network projects in order not to repeat the same mistakes.
