Wake vortex research at DLR Göttingen

The progress made in the past decade at the development of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) allows to measure instantaneous velocity field in wake vortices. The PIV technique has been successfully applied in large low speed wind tunnels, water towing tanks and in the catapult test facility of ONERA Lille. A four-vortex generating device is under investigation at DLR and promises to be able to lead to early vortex breakdown.
