OXIDATIVE ASSIMILATION OF GLUCOSE AND ENDOGENOUS RESPIRATION OF BACILLUS CEREUS

In many species of bacteria the rate of endogenous respiration is high and does not appear to be suppressed, at least to a marked extent, in the presence of common substrates (Midwinter and Batt, 1960; Wilner and Clifton, 1954). This paper summarizes observations on oxidative assimilation of C14-labeled glucose and endogenous respiration of C14-labeled cells of Bacillus cereus in an attempt to obtain further insight regarding oxidative assimilation.
