Invited: A novel perspective in algorithmic combinatorial methods for phasing populations in a coalescent model

Phasing is a process by which the genetic material (haplotype) inherited by an individual from each parent is inferred from the genetic material coming from the parents, when the exact origin (i.e. which parent has transmitted a certain character or allele) is unknown (genotype). Currently available biotechnologies for determining the haplotype are much more expensive than those for determining the genotype, hence the relevance given to the phasing problem.
